A MIRACULOUS ESCAPE.
BOY FALLS PROM A TRAIN,
(Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 26
Albert Patterson, aged 16, while returning to Lyttelton on Saturday evening, fell from a train in the tunnel about a hundred yards from the Lyttelton end. He had a miraculous escape from being cut to pieces. He was found by a ganger who was making an inspection of the tunnel on Sunday morning, having lain for 24 hours in an unconscious state alongside the line, over which many trains had passed after he fell. Patterson was removed to the casualty ward of the Lyttelton Hospital, and was found to be suffering from a deep wound in the forehead and two others in the base of the skull. His condition is regarded aa serious.
