KAITOKE NOTES.

(Our Own Correspondent.)

Although in the early part of the evening the weather looked rather unpromising° the plain and fancy dress dance held in the Kaitoke Hall last Thursday evening was quite a success. By eight o’clock a large number of people had assembled, including visitors from Hunterville, Marton, Wanganui, and the surrounding district. The hall had been tastefully decorated with evergreens and arum lilies. As usual, Mr Copley’s music was excellent, and the floor was in splendid order. Mr Alec. Lynch acted as M.C., and everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy the evening’s amusement. Among the fancy dresses were “Titauia’’ (Miss Cox) which won the prize for the best dress; others were “The Bohemian Fortune Teller,” “Bed Cross Nurse,” "Three Gipsies,” "La Gitana,” “Indian Maid,” “Grace Doling,” “Highland Lassie,” "Pierrot,” “Turkish Lady,” "Granny,” “Japanese Girl.” The gentlemen’s fancy dresses were "Jockey’’ (prize winner), Mr Ronald Lynch; "Cook,” "Highlander,” and “Two Little Soldiers.” Quite a sensation was created in the early part of the evening by the arrival of three masked strangers, “Sundowner,” “Black Monk,” and “School Girl.” Kaitoke is still speculating as to whom the much be-whiskered “Sundowner” anight be. An excellent supper was provided.
