A MISSING BOY.
BODY FOUND IN RIVER. This morning a Maori passing along the river bank from Putiki to town noticed the body of a boy at the river's edge in front of the Braeburn Hotel. Word was at once sent to the police, and the body was identified as that of Bertie Welsh, aged 9£ years, son of Mr and Mrs James Welsh, of 31 Heads Road. The little fellow had been missing since Tuesday last, when he went to visit his grandparents in town. On his way home in the afternoon, he found his way to the river bank near the railway engine s&eds on Taupo Quay. He was seen here playing near the river, and throwing pieces of wood into the water, and was warned by some of the men to keep away from the edge. Evidently, however, he stayed on there, and must have overbalanced and fallen into the water at a time when no one was about to help him. An inquest will be held to-morrow morning. The deceased was a bright little fellow, and much sympathy will be felt with Mr and Mrs Welsh in their very sad bereavement.
