GERMAN ATTACKS EVERYWHERE REPULSED.

FRENCH CAPTURE TRENCHES IN LORRAINE. By Electric Tele?upb.—Copyright. LONDON, October 24. Paris reports that yesterday evening enemy groups attempted to leave their trenches at Boia en Hache, near the small fort of Givenchy, but were immediately and easily dispersed. In the Champagne a strong enemy reconnaissance, accompanied by weeping and asphyxiating shells, attempted to gain a footing In the French positions at the Butte of Tahure, but were everywhere repulsed and nearly destroyed by infantry and machine gun fire. In Lorraine, in a hand-to-hand combat, we captured trenches occupied by the enemy at Leintres, Gondrazon, and Amenonocourt-Relilon cross roads. We were recently toid that on the western front the Germans have been strongly reinforced, both south of La Bassee and in the Champagne. The Kaiser has ordered the Germans to take the -offensive, so as not to allow General Joffre to impose his will upon the German generals. These counter-attacks are exactly what Generals Joffre and French wish to bring about, and, in effect, they make up for that lack of mobility that is so greatly brought about by the nature of the defences behind which the Germans are fighting. That the Germans are attacking the impregnable Allied lines so consistently, and with such large forces, is a proof that it is General Joffre who has imposed his will upon the enemv. Nowhere have thc<e attacks been successful, everywhere has the enemy suffered heavy punishment. When these enemy tactics begin to slacken, General Joffre will again begin to push back the Germans until the counter-at-tacks are resumed. When the enemy has been weakened enough he will strike the blow which is to send the Germans en route for the Rhine. Once that movement begins, it may be a rout. The Germans would probably retreat now if they were not afraid to begin. It is suspected that the Germans have made frestj proposals to France for a separate peace. If so, it will bo due to that great fear.
