GERMANS DECIMATED AT GIVENCHY.
EIGHT ATTACKS REPULSED IN FIVE DAYS. The High Commissioner reports: LONDON, October 24 (4.25 p.m.). The Germans last evening attempted another attack on Fort Givenchy Wood and our advanced outposts in the neighbourhood of Hill 140, but were decimated Immediately they started from their trenches, and were compelled to return. This la the eighth check inflicted on the enemy in five days in this region of front. Artillery fighting is very lively and almost incessant south of the Somme. In the Champagne our batteries effectively punished the trenches aud works of the enemy.
