AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP.

DUNEDIN, September 25.
In the golf championship finals, at the ena ot the first round, H. C. Smith was one up on Lu6k (Christchurch). The final for the New Zealand Amateur Golf Championship was played today and won by H. C. Smith (Otago), who beat Lusk by 3 up and 1 to play after an interesting game. < The final of the medal handicap in connection with the second round of the championship was also played and won by U. K. Hums (Christchurch) with a score of 89 net.
ANNUAL MEETING OF NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL.
DUNEDINN, September 27. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Golf Council, the statement of reneupts and expenditure showed a very satisfactory financial position. It was reported that the following clubs had affiliated during the year — Lawrence, Gore, Waveriey, Kimbolton, Balclutha (men's clubs), St. Clair, Invercargill, Westport, Greymouth. Hagley (ladies'). It was decidea that the championship o* 1909 be played at Auckland, the open championship to be one of the events. It vas decided that the next amateur championbhip be open to all amateurs who are members of recognised golf clubs,
THE AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING.
AUCKLAND, September 26. The final of the Auckland Golf Club's championship was played at One Tree Hill links to-day over a 36-hole course, when Heather beat Colbeck by 2 up and 1 to play.
