HOOKEY.
AUCKLAND, September 26. The Hockey Cup matches were concluded yesterday by Auckland A team. The i.M.C.A. annexed both second and third grade championships. The season has proved the most successful that Auckland has yet experienced. Next year the Auckland rep. team will tour the Dominion.
WANG AN UI HOCK BY ASSOCIATION. FIVE-ASIDE TOURNAMENT. ATKINSON CUP. Favoured, with glorious weather, and advantageous conditions, Cook's Gardens was the scene of considerable interest on Saturdiy afternoon last, when the annual competition for the above cup took place. Ten teams competed, T.Y.M.I. beings the only club to withdraw teams, their B and C teams not competing, owing to several of their players journeying to Palmerston. However, some very fast and exciting games were played. The grass was rather on the long side, but did not affect the play to any extent, it being quite fast enough for the players, some of them not being in form for such fast play. Everything went off without a hitch, and the secretary (Mr Geo. Haase) is to be congratulated on the success of the tournament. The following are the results to the games: — FIEST BOUND. Si Paul's B 2, beat Baptist B 1; St. Paul's A 2, beat T.Y.M.I. 1; United A 3, beat C.C.C. B 0; St. Paul's C 2, beat United B 1; Baptist 1 b, beat C.C.C. A 0. A feature of the round was the game between St. Paul's C and United B teams, which was only decided after 25 minutes' play. The St. Paul's learn was composed of juniors (W. Bruce, Inkster, Scrivener, Russell, and Murchie), while the Uniteda included Hardwicke, Marshall, Holland, McDougall, and Morris. In the time limit there was even scoring, and the extension of time by five minutes tailed to give cither side a lead. In .a further five minutes St. Paul's scored, and the elder play, crs failing to equalise, the St. Paul's juniors won a hard fought contest. SECOND ROUND. United A 2, beat St. Paul's BO; St. Paul's A 4, beat St. Paul's C 0; Baptists a bye. THIRD ROUND. United A 2, beat Baptist A 1 ; St. Paul's a bye. St. Paul's A and United A met in the final. In the first spell St. Paul's scored the only goal, but United put in two hot goals in the second spell, and topped the card for the day.
