COMMERCIAL CONGRESS.

In the Federal Senate a question wa6 put to the Government with regard to the grant of ,£IOOO said, to have been promised by the Federal Government towards a commercial congress to be held in Sydney. The Minister said that the Government* havingr some time ago joined in an invitation to the Associated Chambers of Commerce of the Empire to hold their next meeting in Australia, had agreed to submit a proposal to Parliament to vote .£IOOO towards the cost of enabling press representatives from Great Britain and other dominions who would accompany the visitors to make themselves acquainted with the resources of the Commonwealth. In answer to other questions' the Minister said that many benefits were expected "from the wide publicity given from all parts of the Empire, assembled in order to discuss matters affecting production and trade, and from the knowledge of Australia- acquired by them and the picked jourhalists coming with them."
