The Pirate. Football Club's social and dance, which takes place in the Assembly Kooira to-morrow evening promises to be K /hi M mo^ rßllccefisr Bllccefisf »l functions of its kind held in Wanganui for a long time. The committee have all the arrangements well in hand, and those who attend should spend a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The t &° r , e '; rescntativ c team and the officials oi the. \\ anganui Union win b« p^^t a C{ *?" n £ is in the hands of the ladies' and will be very satisfactory. The tickets are by invitation only, and the committee have been very careful in selecting the names. Mrs Lockett will officiate at the Piano, and a splendid musical programme has been arranged. The Wanganui Football Club intend holding a smoke concert at Dustin's Rooms next Saturday evening.
A slight mistake occurred in our report of the judgment in tho McAlinden-Cumber-lanr case. It was Mrs McAlinden and her eon who were complimented by the judge on the fair and honest way in which they gave their evidence.
Word has been received in town of the «A,. in w «Hington on Saturday of Mr Uilham Turner, a son of Mr Joseph liirner, who formerly resided in Wanganui. Tho deceased, who was a barber was well known and very popular in Wanganui, and the news of his untimely end will be received with regret by many.
Tlie public sittings of the Supreme Court were concluded on Saturday, and this morning Hie Honor, the Chief Justice, sitting in chambers, heard the motion of Dr. Wall (Mr Cohen), taking exceptions to the official receiver's report in the case of Wall v. Porritt, who dissolved partnership in July of last year. The exceptions were for certain accounts written off by Dr. Porritfe. Mr Corry appeared for Dr. Porritt, and Mr Gordon for the official received. Dr. Porritt was examined at length with regard to a number of accounts he has reduced, after having received something on account, and as to his reasons for reducing such accounts, also as to a number of attendances entered in hie diary, but which had not been charged, for. He was further examined at to whether lie had received payments for attendances and had not entered such payments in hia diary. After hearing Dr. Porritt's evidence, and an address by Mr Cohen, his Honour ordered that three of the accounts mentioned in the proceedings should be accounted for.
