WANuANUI ROWING CLUB

Thanks to the energetic treasurer of the Chit), Mr. Peter Lewis, I am enabled to place, through your columns, the report which will be submitted at the general meeting which takes place in the Club's meeting room to-morrow evening. As tne report shows, the Club is in a healthy condition, thanks to the executive, especially the treasurer, who, as gleaner for the past five years, has practically '" nil" opposite " outetanding dues" during that time. THiRIT-FIRST ANNUAL REPORT.

Your committee have much pleasure in submitting the thirty-first annual report, and congratulate the members on the continued success of the Club.

On reference to the balance-sheet it will be seen that the total receipts amount to ,£625 17s 7d , and the expenditure ,£623 8s 3d, leaving a credit balance of £2 9a 4d.

The usual <£20 instalment due to the Loan, Finance, and Investment Company was not paid off this year. The Club's indebtedness to that body remains at .£BO. Two or three items of expenditure were fairly heavy, namely — £39 9s 7d, extras on contract price for alterations and additions to club-house; £65 7s 6d, for purchase of plant ; and =£67 5s 6d, refund to Mr. C. J. Wray. The latter item may bo briefly explained. £300 of the bazaar receipts had been deposited in the Post Office Savings Bank on fixed deposit, and on the settlement of the bazaar proceeds, to avoid drawing on the ,£3OO for balance purchase money on the " eights," and thus being interest, Mr. Wray advanced the £Q7 58 6d, which was duly refunded when the ,£3OO was lifted.

Forty-three new members were elected during the season, the financial membership now standing at 141, consisting of 79 active members, 58 non-active members, 9 life members, and 4 country members. A new best-and-best rigger four, and a convertible maiden pair oar and double scull, have been ordered from Messrs. Edwards and Son, besides a supply of oars, and the two club fours have been refitted with slides. The cost of the above plant will be about <£94 net, of which has already been paid. Some of the old tubs were disposed of -during the season, and two new tubs of a lighter style were purchased in their stead. Mr. C. J. Wray resigned his position as captain in November, 1905, and Dr. Graham was appointed in his place. The latter gentleman has now left the district, and has sent in his resignation. The thanks of the members are due to Mr. C. J. Wray for his valuable donatoin of eight challenge cups for. scratch eights, and aleo to Deputy-captain Franklin, who kindly donated a trophy for aculling. The club was represented at the Wanganui, Waitara, Napier, and Picton (championship) Regattas, getting two first and four seconds, one of the latter being second in the championship fours, the total prize money amounting to ,£49. The annual race between the Collegiate School and the Club resulted in a win for the latter, which brings the Club's wills up to 8, as against 13 by the School. The annual smoke concert was held on the 31st May, at which the trophies won during the season were presented A dance was also held in the Assembly Rooms on the 27th July,* and a most pleasant evening was spent by all those present. A scheme to obtain a billiard table for the Club was brought before the committee, who approved of the same, subject to the further approval of the members at the annual meeting. The plant has been thoroughly done up, and will be in good condition to start the coming season. The thanks of members are due to Mr. E. M. Silk for his kindness m auditing the balance-sheet Finally, vow committee thank the memiuli f.° r C ' r Paßt Bu PP°rt, -«<i trust resuU^oTh""^" 011 "* *** For the Committee, (Signed) H. F.
