Labour and Politics.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, — I have read Mr Love's letter in your paper, together with your footnote, and I 86 a worker re-echo Mr Love'swords, that Labour should be independent" in its politics; and again, as a worker I deny that its ingratitude on Labour's part to choose their own and elect their own apart from Mr Seddon's wishes. I well remember°*the '91 strike that put the present Party into power. Further, I ■well remember how Labour put Mr Jack Hutcheraon and the late Mr Geo. Fisher in for Wellington City, which is undoubtedly the most conservative city* in New Zoaland. . And .Labour can and I feel sure will, again send one of ii 'own hornyhanded sons of toil back tc ?arliair.ent who will know their needs I not be pledged to vote against their own honour as men. You argue, sir, that Labour owes something to Mr Seddon's Govern-ment,-and is bound' in gratitude to it. So- might you argue, sir, that the Prohibition Party is likewise tymnd. Such argument, sir, is wrong, because Mr Seddon is, if anything, a man. of the hour. A measure he would cause to be defeated last session he would, if the voice of the people or his party was strong for it, carry this session. Labour knows this, like the Prohibition party, and if the workers are alive in Wanganui, and I believe they are, they will demand a hearting after next election by sending one of their own to represent them. Let me say this in closing, sir, that though you use your pen to keep Labour organisation back, it is, like good dough, bound to xise, and greater "pens Lave be«n used .against us before, and still vre live as an organisation. It is such men. as Mr Love that the workers would rather listen to,- because he is one of their own. — I am, ct °" .WORKER.
