The River.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir,— You must be getting tired of so many letters.. They ought to get a decent old woman to look after the river. I am sure she would sweep out her kitchen after every flood, and I would not waste any more time in writing letters. When the river is cleared out the water will drop four feet at the bridge; that gives four feet more room for flood water. The clay from the bridge to the top of the bend should be trimmed and dropped into the river, and held there, and that- side encouraged to silt up to its proper level. Drive piles along the clay and plank them, so that tho current cannot wash away any more clay, and to prevent the current from dipping trim the top bank and plant it with allows and grass. Steady the current on that side, get a cannon off the road, and pocket the silt, etc.— l am, etc., . G. H. WATSON.
