Mr John Arthur, who has for 29 years hnen in the employ of the- New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, has resigned his position as Wellington manager of the company, which office he assumed in 1-899. A very old resident of Palmerston North, Mrs Annie E. Robert,, wife of the lat? Mr C. W. Robert, passed away yesterday. Deceased had resided thirty years' in tho district. The deceased pair many years ago brought to New Zealand the art of working in silver and gold thread, as their ancestors introduced it into England iv tho year 1700, when, with other Huguenot families, they fled from France. This art the late Mr Robert followed during his life; and his son, Mr P. Roberts, now continues the work, his being practically the only establishment of the kind in the colony. Dec-eased leaves a family of throe sons and five daughters, one of whom is Mrs J. G. Browne, of' Wanganui.
