Supposed Gang of Burglars

DUNEDIN, August 14

A number of robberies of jewellery from residences have lately been reported. The detective's suspicions fixed on a couple of young men, strangers to the town, last week, when a haul of .£55 worth of jewellery was secured. Three men were arrosted, giving the names of Robert Palmer. William Jones, and Walter At well. Charges of vagrancy -were the result, but on subsequent inquiries Palmer and Jones were identified as George Augustus Vin-c-ent and William Preston, with several aliases. They will be charged with suveral offences of breaking and entering later on. The men will be charged with offences committed under similar circumstances at Christchurch, Wellington, Wanganui, and Auckland. The gang has gradually worked its way down through the colony.
