COLLEGE (27) v. KAIERAU (17).
From the start this game was very fast and interesting. College seemed to have a day out, and forcing the play they got in Kaierau's 25, where two shots at goal from marks went wide. College indulged in some of the prettiest passing seen on the ground, and wei'e soon rewarded by Hitchings dashing over near the corner. Dive made a fine kicked, but failed. Kai'e-
ran then forced the College back, Dive minor storing a dangerous rush by kicking out. School got possession on a lineoufc in Kaireau's 25, and passing among the forwards ended in Ormond diving between the posts, Hitchings converting. From a splendid forward rush down the field, Ritchie snapped up and scored near the corner, Hitchings again "converting. Kicking off, Kaierau attacked strongly, and from a scrum Wilson started a nice passing rush, Kilpatrick being collared on the line. Again the Kaierau- backs got going, and Kilpatrick was again stopped in the nick of time. From the ensuing scrum the same player dashed across, Takarangi failing with th© kick. Just after the start of the second spell, Dive major intercepted on his own line, and
put in a sensational run, getting right through the Kaierau team, and finishing up by scoring between the posts, after the "best piece of play in the game, which
he was heartily applauded. Hitchings agaiu converted. College 13, Kairean "4. Kicking off, Takarangi put in a fine run, but was grassed just in time. After give-and-take play, Hitchings marked in front of the goal, Dive converting. College 22, Kaierau 3. Immediately after, Wilson secured from a scrum, and sending^ the hair on to Butler, the latter scored after a nice run. ' The kick was a failure. College now got on a fine forward rush, but Dive failed to pick up when a score seemed certain. College at this time seemed to have Kaierau paralysed, and indulged in passing rushes time and again, but good defence nullified their efforts. Another good forward rush ended in Eitchie getting his second try. between the posts, Hitchings again converting. Continuing, Dive major mulled a high kick, and G-uscott, following up well, secured and scored. Takarangi again failed to kick. College 27, Kaierau 9. Kilpatrick now shifted" np to five-eighth, and, making a nice opening, sent on to Takarangi, who was almost over. Again Kilpatrick secured, and made a- nice run to the line, and in the ensuing scramble the same player scored. Takeransri'W kick hitting
the post. College 27, Kaieran 12. Still Icerping up thn attnrk, Kilpatrick sent the
ball on to Wilson, to Takarangi, to Jago, the latter scoring near the posts, Takarangi converting. Time was then called, with the score — College 27, Kaierati 17.
»For the winners all played well, though Heenan, Ritchie, and Ormond were perhaps the best in the forwards, while Dive (2), Hitchings, and Riddiford played splendidly in the backs. Among the Kaieraus (who had a weak team), Takarangi, Kilpatrick, and Guscott j^laycd well.
