WINS FOR PIRATES, COLLEGE, AND OLD BOYS.

PIRATES (3) v. WAVERLEY (0).

This game was anything but interesting, and ended in a win for Pirates by the greatest of luck, as Waverley threw away try after try in the second spell after working hard to get the ball near the line. In the first spell Prideau scored, the kick being futile. Pirates had slightly the best of the game in this spell. On changing round Waverley livened up, and time after time, their forwards, headed by Elmslio and Taylor, got Pirates in trouble, only to be driven back by good defence, combined with faulty play on their own part. McDonald marking near the start, Strahan made a fine attempt with the kick, the ball just grazing the post. Soon after Elmslie got off-side in front of the posts when a score seemed certain. Just after, Dickie made a great dash to the line from half-way, but Seeling brought him down in fine style, both men getting a bit of a shaking." Pirates were then forced several times in quick succession, but, waking up, worked the ball up to the other end of the field, where" passing among the backs looked like ending in a certain score, but Waverley managed to save. Give-and-take play ensued, till Elmslie again got right away with the ball, and with three or four men with him. and only one in front, elected to go on his own and lost a certain score. Time was called soon after, with Waverley attacking strongly. For the winners (who had a weak team). Dow, Holland, and Seeling, in the backs, played hard games, and Thomson shone out in the forwards. For Waverley Elmlie, Taylor, and McDonald grafted hard amongst a willing set of forwards, and Strahan played a- fine game in the backs.
