AN EXCITED RESCUER.
How ono of a theatre audience was carried away is reported by the Bendigo Advertisor. The occurrence took place on New Year's Eve, when Messrs Holloway and Anderson's company waa playing " Nanoy and Her Sailor." In the second aot Ralph Cartwright (Mr Stanford) has lured Beatrice Ashileld (Mibs Helen Fergus) to a meeting late at night at the scene of the Old Mill House and Ruined Bridge, where he ia endeavoring by violence to make her Rwear to keep tho secret of her disgrace from her brother at the point of the knife. The scone was a moving one, and the efforts of Mr Stanford were so excellent and realistio that it had the. effect of causing a strongly built young man to leap upon the stage out of the stalls. He sneaked upon the wouldbe murderer of Beatrice Ashfield like a panther, graspod him by the shoulders, and hurled him from the woman. Luokily for the actor an attendant rushed from the wings and helped the young fellow to a hurried oxit. At the baok of the stage the would-be resouer resented this interference, and threatened to "do " for Cartwright if he did not leave the woman alone. He was quite agitated, and the management thought it wise to keep him out of tho theatre for a time, when he cooled down somewhat, and promised to have bettor command over himself for the rest of the performance, which he did.
