REAPING MACHINE ACCIDENT.

The Waiuku correspondent of tho Auokland Herald writes as follows in reference to tho acoident telegraphed the other day : " A very sad and distressing accident happened on the 7th instant to the youngest child of Mr A. M. Barelball, a little boy two and a half years old. Whilst Mr Barriball was reaping his oats, which are an oxtra heavy crop (the binder machine ( being driven by his eldest son), the little' feliow oropt into the standing corn, and was lying down. The knife of the maohiuo passed right over the little unfortunate, and he was right out of sight under the maohine before tho horses stopped. Mr Barribal, who was a few yards behind, hearing a faint ory, asked what was the matter, rushed in front, and when the machine backed, at once drew out Mb little son, and saw that the right arm waa severed between the elbow and shoulder. The father at ouce grasped the remaining part of the arm, and a trap being at baud, galloped to tho doctor, who at once stopped the bleeding. The acoident took place at five p m., and about^three hours later Dr Clonoton amputated more of the arm the chloroform being "administared by Mr Rishworth, dentist, Onehunga. "Dr Burnaby was aleo present and assisted. The operation was very successful, and on Sunday the little fellow was bright and the dootorhas strong hopes of pulling him through. Besides a number of bruises, there are a few nasty cuts. It is wonderful, considering the circumstances, that the little child was not cut to pieces."
