THE FROZEN MEAT TRADE.
Mr Weddel Interviews the Minister of Lands.
(Per United Press Association.)
CnmsTcnuncn, January 13.
Mr W. Weddel interviewed the Hon. J. MoKenzie this morning with a view to obtaining the assistance of the New Zealand Government in connection with the proposed new sorting sheds at tho London dooks. Knowing that Mr McKenzie purposed paying a visit to the Old Country at an early date, Mr Weddel offered to show him round while in London, and genorally to place all his experience in the matter of frozen meat at the disposal of tho Minister, who would thus be enabled to arrive at his own conclusions. In aocopting the offer thus made, Mr McKenzie lixpressod his great confidence in the ' future of New Zealand, aud said that no equal area of land in any part of the world could produce as many sheep or the same' high quality of mutton as New Zealand, Mr Weddel remarked that the comparative sacrifice made during Jubilee year, when there had been a glut of New Zealand lambs on the London market and prices had gone down to an unprecedented extent, had done good by inducing further consumption, and had materially assisted the sales in 1898. As far as he could see the lamb trade of New Zealand was now practically an assured success.
