QUOITING CONTEST.

The long-lookea-for competition for a Challenge Cup among the West Coast Clubs took place yesterday on St John's Hill. The day was, on the whole, good, and the play in many cases excellent. Unfortunately some of our local players could not attend, and substitutes had to be obtained. Play began about 12, and continued almost without intermission till 4 p.m. Three clubs only were represented, viz,, Feilding, Marton, and Wanganui Caledonians. Two rounds were played against each club, of 21 and 11 respectively, with the following results : — First round, —Marton 252, Feilding 204, Caledonian 177. Second round — Marton 121, Feilding 90, Caledonian 116. Totals— Marton 373, Feilding 294, Caledonian 293. The Cup being thus fairly won by the Martonians, Mr Thomson pijesented it in an appropriate speech, and intimated that another contest for its possession would prooably be held at Feilding in two months' time, when he hoped better fortune would attend Wanganui. With ringing cheers for the several teams and one more for the worthy " skipper," Mr Thomson, the tourney ended.
