A Stabbing Affray. <
(Per United Press Association.) Wellington, May 25.
A general holiday was observed yesterday. The weather was fine, thodgh rain was threatening, and there was a strong norwester blowing. The volunteers had a sham fight at Island Bay, and were reviewed by the Governor in the afternoon.
A large number of excursionists went to the Otaki races.
The chief attraction in town was the Municipal Fire Brigade Sports, which were largely attended Ihe Executive Committee of the Municipal Association has resolved that the biennial conference of the Association shall be held as soon as convenient after the opening of Parliament. Tho flagship Eojal Arthur sails for Auckland on Sunday. During an altercation early yesterday morning between three men, named, Maroney, Larsen, and Creasey, aud the proprietor of an oyster saloon, it is alleged that HcKer.zie, the proprietor, stabbed Maroney in the right side and also wounded Lar3en. McKenzie has been arrested on a charge of wounding.
