London, October 7. — Sir W. T. Robertson, M.P. for Brighton, has committed suioide by cutting his throat during a fit of mental depression, consequent on illnesa.
[We take the following particulars relating to the deceased from the Guide to the House of Commons :—": — " Sir William Tindal Robertson entered the House of Commons with two special qualifications. In fche first place, he had — so he says himself — " fche ununanimous vote of the ladies of the town," a fact, perhaps, which accountsfor the Queen having since knighted him. In the second place, he succeeds Mr Fawcott as the blind member for Brighton. In earlier life he was a well-known and successful physician ; but bia sight began to fail in 1873, and he has now been blind for some years. He is a member of the Royal Commission on the Blind, Deaf, and Dumb. Unhappily, his physical blindness has only strengthened his political, and for some years also he has been chairman of theßrighton Tory Caucus. He also enjoya the dubious honour of a seat on the town council. He was educated at a grammar school afc Grantham, and studied at University College Hospital, afterwards taking his M.D. degree at Edinburgh. He is 61.]
