THE RAILWAY ACCIDENT AT RANGIORA.

Christohuhch, Deo 16.

The following are further particulars regarding the accident at the Railway crossing yoeterday. The occupants of the wagon, numbering twelve, were thrown out, two of them, Mr David Kerr and Miss Margaret Mar roll, falling under the wheels of the train, and receiving terrible injuries, from the effect of which they died shortly after* wardu. The names of the others of the party, and the injuries they received, are as follows :— Thomas Kerr, 1' ft arm badly broken and head cut; John Hughey, the driver, serious wounds on the head; D' McKay and Mrs McKay, each two ribs broken ; Misses H. and W. Stapleford, Jane McCracken, A, Mar r ell, and Mr O. J. Jennings, more or less bruised and shaken. The deceased, David Kerr, is a son of Mr Thomas Kerr, of the well-known firm of Boyd and Kerr, builders, aud was 21 years of age. The young lady deceased was 15 yeara of age. No injury was done to the train; The driver of the van is seid 10 be principally to blame for the accident. The accident has caused a great gloom orer Eangiora, aud a number of- persons who were waiting on the railway platform to take the train to Christchuroh to enjoy a holiday (Anniversary Day) were so affected that they returned to then homes. Hughey and McKay are in a very precarious condition, the latter having received injuries to his baok of a cerious nature in addition to broken ribs. The other sufferers are doing as well as can be expected.
