BOXING

WORLD’S CHAMPIONSHIP. WIN FOR CAR NEE A. . NEW YORK, Thursday. The giant Italian boxer, Primo Oarriera, knocked out Jack Sharkey in the sixth round of a bout for the heavyweight world’s championship title. The fight took place in Madison Square Bowl. . Camera, weighed 18st. Bslb., and Sharkey 14st. 51b. The odds shortened to 11 to 10, favouring the champion, Sharkey, as the men entered the ring. In the first round Sharkey almost fell through the ropes when he rushed at Camera, and the latter thrust him heavily aside. Camera hammered the champion’s face. It was Camera’s round.-

'Sharkey took the second round with his short lights and lefts to the Italian’s facev The latter backed into the ropes, his own blows falling short. A straight left to the face snapped the challenger’s head back sharply on the bell.

Sharkey continued his advantage in the third round, reaching his opponent repeatedly with blows to the head and body. The Italian f ought back savagely, but his blows were wide. In the fourth round, the champion was outboxing his opponent, whom the referee repeatedly warned for holding and hitting in clinches. The Italian’s blows seemed without particular direc-, tion. His massive arms, however, were like a shield, difficult to penetrate. The fifth round was marked by a scorching right hooked by (Sharkey to .Camera’s jaw, badly shaking the challenger. The Italian now began to rush the American hard. Sharkey, nevertheless, fought back skilfully, blocking his opponent’s blows and landing on Car-nera’-s jaw. At the bell the American still led.

The sixth round was Camera’s. His manager, before the bell, was heard to urge the challenger to “take advantage of everything.” Just what this meant was made clear when Camera immediately rushed upon Sharkey and drove him hard about the ring, clubbing lefts and rights to the head..and blocking all the American’s returns with ease. Sharkey slipped once to the floor, but rose dmmedia.telv. Then in a clinch on the ropes he missed his footing and slipped on his left'knee, as Camera landed a light right upper-cut. The champion went down, but arose before the count could have begun. Apparently he was unhurt. Camera resumed the chase of his opponent, and then, apparently from nowhere, he pulled a terrific right uppercut, which landed flush on Sharkey’s chin, snapped his head back, and sent bim down, where he was counted out with his face' to the ring floor. The champion was carried to his comer, his manager excitedly demanding that Camera’s gloves be examined. A semi-hysterical scene ensued in the ring when the spectators leaped in, but order was soon restored. The round lasted Imin. 47see. CHALLENGE FROM GAINS.
