MAGISTRATE’S COURT

MASTERTON SITTING. POLICE AND BY-LAW CASES. Mr J. Miller, S.M., dealt with a list of police and by-law cases in the Magistrate *s Court this morning. Charged with having used an unregistered motor ear, at Blairlogie, John O’Brien was fined 30s, costs 10s. Fred Butcher, for having used an unregistered slaughter-house, was fined 30s, and costs 10s. On behalf of defendant, Mr B. R. Burridge said that a technical offence was admitted, and that there was no intention to evade payment of the fees. A fine of £l, with 20s 6d costs, was imposed on J. L. Fulton and Marjory D. Green on a charge of having watered gardens contrary to the hosing restrictions made by the Masterton Borough Council. Fulton pleaded not guilty, and after evidence had been given in respect to the restrictions having been advertised in the two local newspapers, defendant told the Magistrate that he could not afford to buy a newspaper and did not know that there were any restrictions on watering gardens. Defaulting for more than one month of the August, 1932, the unemployment levy, John Oscar Borey was fined 10s, with costs of 10s.-
