YOUTH’S BAD BREAK.

Very soon after his release from the Borstal, Hawea Governor, a half-caste Maori youth, committed a series of thefts from dwelling-houses in Garterton in conjunction with two other youths

This morning Governor appeared in. the Magistrate’s Court Pei ore Mr J. Miller, S.M., and pleaded guilty to entering the home of iiugh Crebrge effort, 2 High Street, Carterton, on 3rd January last and stealing a gold brooch, gent’s signet ring, ladies’ jewelled gold ring and a vanity case to a total value of £l3/13/6, and the same day entering the home of Laura .Goodin, *3 Kent Street, Carterton, and .stealing two tins of salmon, gent’s suspenders, necktie and a gold dreSs ring, In view of accused’s youth Mr Miller stated that he would deal with the case himself in spite of the fact that it was an ‘indictible .one. He knew the circumstances of the case, having already dealt with the other two youtns concerned in the-Children’s Court. Mr Miller said he would take into consideration the fact that accused had been led astray by someone else. He .would not send him on to the Supreme Court but ordered that he be sent back to the Borstal for a period of three years. A charge of being concerned in the theft of £l/13/- from the office of Messrs Lyttle and Co., Ltd., Masterton, was held in abeyance.
