MURDER OF CHEMIST

THE BLOMFIELD TRAGEDY. A NEW DEVELOPMENT. AUCKLAND, This Day. In connection with the resumption next week of the inquest concerning the murder of Arthur James Blomfield, a city chemist, on 31st October last, it is reported that a new development has occurred. It is understood that the police learned by chance of a young man who has told a story that on the night of the murder he was in an hotel when two men whom he knew entered, asking for a drink. Both were agitated, and in conversation one allegedly said that they had settled Blomfield. Their story was that they had gone to town in a car, and one called on Blomfield to arrange for the easier payment of* a debt they owed. He returned to the car and told his companion of Blomfield’s refusal to meet the request. It is alleged that taking a spanner from under the seat he declared that he woul’l make Blomfield sec reason and returned to the shop. (P.A.)
