AMATEUR ATHLETICS

MASTERTON CLUB’S MEETING. iSplendi(Lcontests should bo witnessed at the sports gathering to be held at tho Park Oval on Friday, Anniversary Day, by the Masterton Amateur Athletic Club. Arrangements have been practically finalised and the gathering promises to bo one of the most successful held by the club for some considerable time. Additional entries received yesterday bring .the total of individual competitors to 187. There will be 44 starters in the quarter-mild; 40 in the half mile, 35 in tho mile and 35 in the 100 yards. In addition to such wellknown performers as C. Jenkins, G. Bayne, J. Findlay, W. Veitch and Misses T. Kench and M. Lean, the touring party of eleven Canterbury College athletes will also be competing. The first event will start at 12.30 p.m. and the price of admission will be Is. A dance will be held in the Arcade Hall in the evening at which Minifie’s orchestra will supply the music. Word has been received in Masterton that tho Canterbury College touring team of athletes, who are competing at the gathering, will arrive in Masterton to-morrow afternoon.
