The whole of Queensland lias been in the grip of as heat wave for the past week.

The temperature at 'Cliarlevillo yesterday reached 120 degrees, at Emerald it registered HO and in many other places went over 100. An old man and a boy died as the result of the excessive heat. There was a climax when one of the most severe storms for many years burst over the city. Vivid lightning accompanied by fierce wind and torrential rain. Within a few minutes the streets were like rivers and the transport services were disorganised. The electric light failed in several of the suburbs.
