BOXING
HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE. NEW YORK, Monday. Max Sehmelling will defend his heavyweight boxing title against Mickey Walker at Miami, Florida, in the last week of February, under the auspices of the Madison Square Garden Corporation. Articles are to be signed on Tuesday or Wednesday. J. Jacobs, Sehmelling’s manager, announced that he also plans anothei title defence in June or September against either Dempsey or Sharkey.
PALMER BEATS THORNTON. PALMERSTON N., Monday. Ambrose Palmer obtained a points decision against R. Thornton in a, fifteenround contest at Palmerston North last evening. Palmer did most of the leading and cleaner hitting, though Thornton gave a good account of himself.' In a four-round amateur preliminary} J] Eord, of Masterton, defeated Plank, of Wanganui, on points. —(P.A.)
