Troilus raced very consistently in the hurdle event sat South Canterbury. He was second to Antrim Boy on Thursday, while on Saturday he went even better, and always looked a likely winner over the last six furlongs. Troilus is very well at present, and further successes may be expected from him, though he may not be up to winning over long journeys in , the best company.

Ranelagli made an exhibition of his opponents in the Prince of Wales Handicap at Timaru. . He was well placed all the way and gave the impression that he could have gone to the front at any stage. The field he beat was not strong, but the manner in which he accomplished his task was impressive. Ranelngh has made steady improvement right through the season and lie is not nearly at the limit of his powers. He should be equal to winning good races up to a mile and a quarter next season.
