N.Z. ’VARSITY DEFEAT SYDNEY. SYDNEY, Sunday. The second University Rugby match resulted in a victory for New Zealand by fifteen points to eleven. The New Zealand forwards played a useful, strenuous game, and although the handling of the backs at times was faulty, it was by no means invariably so, and the visitors had the better of a hard, exciting game. ‘ Playing against th e wind and sun in the first spell the New Zealanders gained a try three minutes before the end, and at the interval led by throe tc nil. New Zealand scored two more unconverted tries in the second spell before Burge got over for Sydney, Ross converting. New Zealand next crossed, then Sheehan and Mann - successively scored for the home team, making the score twelve to eleven in New Zealand’s favour. In an exciting finish the visitors put the result beyond doubt with another try. Their scorers w r ere Lindsay in the first spell, and Smith, Lindsay, Alley and Keegan.in that order in the second. Butler met with no success at goal kicking, and O’Regan and Lindsay also failed in that respect. The New Zealanders’ tackling showed room for Improvement in the second spell, but was strong in the first. ASSOCIATION CODE. EASY WIN FOR CANADIANS. WANGANUI, Saturday. The Canadian Association team played its second game in the New Zealand tour this afternoon, defeating Wanganui by 7 goals to 0. The attendance .was 3000. N.S.W. DEFEAT CZECH-SLOVAKIA. SYDNEY, Saturday. At Soccer New South Wales defeated Czeeho-Slovakia by five goals to four. WAIRARAPA v. PETONE. The following players have been selected to represent Wairarapa to play Petone, at Petone, on the King’s Birthday:— j Sturdee, Ricks, Couper, Thwaite, Hammond (Martinborough); Whitburn, Waring (Carterton); Gray, Birkett, James, McArdle, McDonald, Timson, King and Collinson (Masterton). The team will leave Masterton at 6 a.m. on Friday and will play at Petone in the morning, so that an opportunity will be afforded the players to witness the Wellingon-Canadian match in the afternoon. Reserved seats for the Ranfurly Shield match at Napier can be booked at L. A. Wadham’s.
