COSY THEATRE. “THE LADY.” Nonna Talmadge in her latest and greatest achievement, “The Lady, will commence a two-night season at the Cosy Theatre. Martin Brown’s poignant drama has sure screen values what with its convincing story, its lincly developed plot, its clearly defined characterisation, and the rich array of human touches, expressed through pathos and heart appeal. Instantly' the central figure is introduced there is kindled sympathetic response, it scores as easily in its screen form as when it- was expressed through dialogue. Miss Talmadge has never flashed more convict ion Tin ore poise and bearing than in her study of the English music-hall girl who tried so hard to be a indy'. Deserted bv her husband, whose marriage wasn’t sanctioned by his father, the action follows her struggles to gain a livelihood as a singer in a French cafe. She narrates her storv and the action fades into the past, picking up the pitiable woman’s tale at the climax—at the hour that her boy comes back into her life as a soldier wounded in her cafe. Especially' compelling' is the mother s id"i'tification of her son and again when she wanders the London street, in hopes of spying him. Miss Talmadjp calls upon all her emotional reserves to effect these scenes—and she has gieat assistance, from a, cast comprising George Ilaekatliorne, Alt'. Doubling. Margaret ‘Seddou and others. A fine picture. Box plan at Henderson’s.
