AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the M'airarapa Automobile Association was held at Grey town last- evening, there being present: Messrs, F. C. Bunny (chairman), IT. J. (Jones, JI. Buck, M. Shiitcliffe, R. M r . Ro.vdhouse, E. E. O’Neale, S. Stevens and I. V. M ilson (secretary). Apologies were received from Messrs. K. Mcßean Stewart, W. G. K. Wiggins and 11. E. Jackson. Sixteen new members were admitted, and six resignations were accepted, one being held over. Dr. M. B. Tweed wrote saving that on a recent day he passed nine cars in close succession on the Rimutaka hill and all were travelling at too great a speed. He hoped that the attention of motorists would be drawn to the danger to themselves, of not giving more consideration to uphill traffic. Mr. Shirtcliffe referred to a motor bus on the hill on which suitcases had been projecting too far. It was dangerous to attempt to pass him. Generally, lie found everybody on the road very reasonable, with only a few exceptions. It was decided to mite to the. bus driver. The supplying of posts for Bakaunui was left to the secretary. It was also decided to place a sign on the .North road corner at Ekctahuna, showing the direction to Nireaha. In reply to a request for the ro|moval of signs placed indiscriminately along country roads, the British Imperial Oil Company advised that this had already received their attention, and instructions had been given for the icmoval of the signs. The Dyer School Committee complained about,the speed of motorists past the school. —Decided to write stating that the committee had the power to take the numbers of speeding motorists and prosecute. The Public Works Department advised that notice boards as to speed limits had been placed on the Einmtaka hill, but the matter of enforcing the limits would bo considered at the next meeting of the Main Highways Board. The Waitara Chamber of Commerce advised that, a special area near the town and beach had now been made available for a camp site. The Wellington Association advised that it was endeavouring to arrange for the provision of camp sites throughout the Wellington district, and asked if the Wairarapa Association would assist. The secretary said there were several places in the district which some generous members might allow to be used for the purpose. The matter was held over till next meeting.
