TURF TOPICS. The question has been raised as to whether L. 'G. Morris’s five firsts and two seconds at Waverley is a record. Without consulting the oldest inhabitant, no one would care to say; but last season H. Gray rode five firsts and a second at Opuhake. All Gray’s wins on that occasion were on the flat, while at Waverley Morris mixed it, and one of his successes was across country. . >

Many Colours and Bonecto were the only two supported in the Mo too Hurdles at the Napier Park meeting at Greenmeadows, and the public were right, for the pair paid the dividends. Right from the start the two favourites made, the running, and with half the journey covered the'rest of the field had been left astern. Running to the last fence Bonecto had a slight advantage over Many Colours, and, jumping better, he went on to win by three' lengths. Garzon was a poor third, and Blissfulness next.

Though only six started in the pier Steeplechase yesterday, it was a fine betting race, four horses, Carawock, 'San Forte, Buckeye and Fireblight being very evenly supported. The race was a line one, the jumping being of a very high order. Cara wo ck and Fireblight took up the running, and the pair led San Forte and Eerie over the first two obstacles. Carawock here lost his position through a bad jump, and San Forte joined Fireblight. Jumping the stand double tihe first time the order was Fireblight, San Forte, Eerie, Buckeye, Carawock and First Line. Entering into the back stretch Eerie moved up, and at the post and rails she had headed Fireblight and San Forte. The hencoop, at the to.p of the straight the second time round, proved too much for Carawock, and down he came. Entering on the second round, Eerie led Fireblight, San Forte and Buckeye, with First Line a furlong back last. The sod wall, half a mile from home, nearly upset Eerie, but her rider recovered in great style, and before the next fence was jumped she was once again in front, just clear of San Forte. Eerie cleared the last fence ahead of San Forte ,and went on to win nicely by three lengths. 'San Forte beat Fireblight by two lengths, and then came Buckeye, with First (Line whipping in.
