AT LONDON DOCKS.
ALLEGED CONGESTION. (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Australian and'N.Z. Cable Association) LONDON, Monday. Interviewed by the " Observer” after an inspection of the London docks, Mr McCurdy, the Eood Controller, said he was excellently impressed with the situation. It Was difficult to detect signs of the alleged terrible congestion and there was no evidence of disorder or confusion or of commodities rotting on the quays. (Lu rather a striking contract to the above message is an earlier Press Association cable message, also received yesterday, which said: "The Daily Mail states that it is understood that the price of imported mutton will be further reduced to ease the congestion in the dock stores.” Towards the end of last year and early in this year, repeated reference was made by cablegrams from England to the very aggiavated condition of congestion prevailing at the docks in London,' Soiitkaffipton, and other ports. It was then pointed out that not only were the sheds full, but that large quantities of goods, many of them perishable, were lying on the wharves. Deterioration of the merchandise was freely alleged, and it was also pointed out that vessels arriving from overseas with cargoes of meat and produce had to wait for a considerable time —in some cases six W eelcs —before the work of discharging them could be commenced; this also on accent of the congestion alleged to exist.)
