THE BRITISH FRONT.

There is comparatively little doing on tho British front; according to the cables to-day. The British are standing ready for any emergency, while at the same time they are launching raids against the enemy's front, and at some parts' carrying out local operations, chiefly for the purpose of improving their positions; We some time ago expected the Germans to make a thrust at the British lines, but the operations along the Marne front have completely upset the Huns' plans. We may, instead, look to the British to launch the next blow. The Germans arc placed in tho position of having had to draw upon the reserves along the British front and thus weaken.their lines. If the Allied operations on the Marne front develop successfully, then the enemy line furthor north will be weakened again, and then will come the opportunity of the British to strike.
