THE ADVANCE IN ALBANIA.
Tho cable news to-day shows that the Allied operations in Albania are developing rapidly, and that the gains achieved by the Italians on tho left, near tho coast, and by the French, on the right, affects practically the whole of the Austrian front in Albania. The Italians, on whom has fallen the main threat to the Austrian lines, have followed up their gains at Berat, and are now pushing ahead north of the town. The French arc clearing the high mountain country between the Devoli and Skumbi rivers. Though the recent successes of the Allies have resulted in a fairly extensive advance, it is yet too early to look for the serious menacing of the Bulgarian right wing near Monaster. Such a turning movement would necessitate the employment of much stronger forces than are likely to be at the disposal of th G Allies in Albania. The absence of railways and the scarcity of ; useful roads do nbt encourage the belief that the Allies would attempt to deliver a big blow at th e enemy's line in Macedonia by way of Albania. Although the Austrians are suffering reverses in Albania, they havo not been completely touted, and unless they arc greatly outnumbered by the Allies it must be expected that tho French and Italian advance must be slow.
