A DISCREDITED LEADER.
In a scathing condemnation of* the methods adopted by the Federal Premier of Australia (Mr W. M. Hughes), in conducting the conscription referendum campaign, one of his /strongest supporters in the fight, Mr I). B. Hall (Attor-ney-General), expresses tho opinion that Mr W. M # Hughes is not fitted to continue longer in tho position of Prime Minister. Mr Hall has appealed to members of the National Party in the Federal Parliament to choose another leader, "one upon whose judgment we can trust, and on whose promises we may rely. ,, ' Mr Hall speaks very strongly concerning Mr Hughes' tactics in suppressing free speech and gagging the press. Mr Hughes' method of conducting the campaign is considered to have been chiefly responsible for the big "No" vote. It would be interesting to know what the Northcliffe Press Gang, which has been the champion of Mr Hughes, and which put him upon a pedestal, now thinks of him. According to the Northcliffe Press Gang Mr Hughes was going to save the whole British Empire in its hour of trial. Apparently Mr Hall and his colleagues in tho Federal Cabinet do not think so.
