AMERICA AT WAR.
When America decided to enter the war, Germany announced to the world that tho Yankees would be unable to render the Allies much assistance because of the difhV.ulty of gathering - together an army. Before the war commenced America's standing , army was 205,000. A. cable today records the fact that it has already reached a total of 1,500,000, and that at the end of '.19IS America will have 2,000,000 men' in the Held. ' 'Like Britain, the •'contemptible army" of America is growing, and will continue to grow beyond the figures quoted in the cables. The entry of the United States into the war is a heavy blow for Germany, and its effects will be felt to an extent little dreamed of by most people. Gorman officialdom knows perfectly well what American participation in tho war means after peace has been declared. The German commercial classes will find the door of America closed to them in many eases whero previously they entered freely. The '' contemptible little American army" will demonstrate on the western front that the spirit of the heroes of the War of Independence permeates the ranks of the soldiers of America who are to-day again striking a blow in tho cause of liberty.
