NEW ZEALAND'S ACCOUNT,

LAWRENCE, Friday

In continuation of his statement to a reporter, explaining the position of the Avar expenses account of the Government, the Hon. James Allen, Minister for Defence, said the position of the war expenses account at January 31st was as follows:—Receipt Treasury bills £1,700,000, contributions, etc., £187,449, total £1,897,449. The expenditure up to January 31st amounted to £903,424, leaving a balance on January 31st of £994,025. The balance, said tho Minister, is represented by cash £213,529, advances outstanding in the Dominion £373,678, and. advances outstanding in London £406,817. These Treasury bills aro noAV paid off by tho loan which has been raised Avith the Imperial loan at a rate which costs Ncav Zealand a trifle under £4 per cent per annum. A further £300,000 is available out of the war loan.
