EXPORT OF MERINO WOOL STOPPED.

CONSTERNATION CAUSED,

(Received Satnrdav. 9.10 a.m.)

SYDNEY, Saturday.

The stoppage of the export of merino wool to America has caused some consternation among the Americans, whose free buying, has been one of the boom factors in the recent sales.

Prior to his departure for Melbourne last, night,-a deputation of woolbuyers obtained the Hon. Mr Tudor's

promise that the matter will be further considered at a Cabinet meeting on Monday. Mr Tudor„said that the issue of the proclamation was unavoidable, but if it Avero possible to modify it, that doubtless would be done.

It transpires that tho order was is- 1 sued as tho result of a despatch from tho Secretary of State for the Colonies to the Hon. A. Fisher, and that there was good and sufficient reason for the step. But all that it was advisable to say at the present .was that tho action had been taken in the public interest.

As the export of crossbred wool to the United States had previously been prohibited, the new order means that no wool Avill be allowed to be shipped

Tho sailing of the steamer Lord Erne, Avith 10,754 bales, Avhich had cleared for Boston, has been stopped.
