THE PEARL NECKLACE.

FURTHER EVIDENCE.

INTERVIEW IN LOCKED BEDROOM.

Pr„s Association—Electric Teleeraph—Copyright LONDON, Sunday.

During the hearing of the. ease against Joseph Grizzard, Simon Silverman, and Leisir Gutwirth (Austrian diamond dealers), and John Lockett (jeweller), charged on remand with being concerned in the theft of the pearl necklace, Quadranstein, one of the men who had helped Spanier in the negotiations for the purchase of the pearls from Gutwirth, cross-examined, stated that he had known Gutwirth for five months and had secured his confidence in connection' with the necklace, pretending that Gutwirth had previously sold for Quadranstein other stolen property.

Quadranstein said that he denied at first that his intention was to buy the necklace, and that when he saw the pearls he concluded that it would be difficult to negotiate for them. He decided that it would be safer to earn the reward. When interviewed the prisoners locked the bedroom door. Quadranstein and Brandstatter carried loaded revolvers, and did not know if Grizzard and Silverman were armed. They did not hold the men up in the bedroom, but they afterwards regretted that they had allowed the necklace to go.
