A London correspondent states that. Mrs and Miss Scddou now expect to leave for New Zoaland in Januaiy, arriving- home at the end of February. Mr James Hislop, principal private secretary to the Prime Minister, has been appointed Under-Secretary for Internal Affairs, the position rendered vacant by the death of Mr Hugh Pollen. A London cablegram reports the death of Lord Stanmore, who as Sir Arthur Gordon was Governor of New Zealand from 1880-1882. Lord Stanuioro, who was the fourth son of the fourth Earl of Aberdeen, was born in 182.). Ho was Governor of Ceylon 1888-1890, and was created a baron in 185)0. The vicar of St. Matthew's (the Rev. H. Watson) leaves Masterton on a visit to England on March 7th. The Bishop of Wellington intends to ordain Mr B. D. Ashcroft to the diaconato on March 3rd, at St. Paul's pro-Cathedral, Wellington. Mr Ashcroft. will begin work in Masteiton parish after Easter, having to conipleto the present term at Wanganui Collogiato School.
