FIRES.

Pauierston N., This Day,
A boarding-house, occupied by Mrs Peters, was destroyed by fire shortly before midnight, last night. A large quantity of furniture and some personal effects of the boarders' were removed. The majority of the inmates, however, will be losers. Mrs Peters had,a policy of £200 on the furniture and £600 on the house, but she will be a heavy loser. A high wind was blowing at the time and the Brigade did good work, confining the outbreak to the boardinghouse.

Messrs Conroy and Co.'s butcher's shop, in Hastings-street, was gutted by lire, early this morning, and an adjoining shop occupied by R. Saunders, grocer, was damaged. The insurances on Convoy's buildings (owned by Mrs N. AVilliams) are £100 in the Phu'iiix. Saunders' building (owned by Messrs Neal and Close), £ lf>o in the Pluenix ; stock, 120 in London and Lancashire, and £150 in Norwich Union.
