THE COMING ELECTIONS.
Mr Hislop is considered by his party to be what sporting folk call " a moral " for Newton. If so, he will defeat the Government candidate (Mr Barber). On Thursday the Premier, at the Kilbirnie ceremony, said—"Mr Hislop was a man of wide experience and sound judgment. He would adorn the Bench, and make an excellent Judge." Since it is understood in legal
circles that one of the Senior Judges of the
Supreme Court will presently retire, it is now being suggested that Mr Hislop may not prove so much " a moral" for Newtown as for a higher place. On the other hand, says one observer of the political game, it may be a clever move to discount his chances in the electorate.— Post.
