TE NUI NOTES.
4. (Special to Daily Times.) It is with much sorrow I have to refer to the death of Mr Hugh Belliss, briefly announced in your paper on Monday last. Mr Belliss died early on Monday morning, after a very painful illness lasting over two months, and borne with great fortitude and patience. Mr Belliss, who was a native of Essex, England, arrived in New Zealand in 1848, and for many years was engaged in farming pursuits in the To NuiValfey. For some years iiOw he had fulfilled. the duties of postmaster at Castle Point, together with the landing and shipping of goods and the dumping of the wool. Ho was a Justice of tho Peace, and a member of tho Masonic Order. Ho was of a pleasant, cheery nature, and his death is sincerely regretted. Tho funeral took place on Wednesday, and was very largely attended, settlers being presont from all parts of the district. The first part of the servico was held at Castle Point, after which tho body was removed to the To Nui Cemetery, where the remainder of the service 'was read by tho Rev. J. 11. Sykes. Mr Belliss leaves a widow, three sons and two daughters, who have the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends.
