Questioned on tho subject of a Chinese invasion, the Premier stated in th.6 Hou«e recently that, from Ist July to date this year there have been eighty-five arrivals and forty-six departures, or a surplus over departures of thirty-nine Chinese. Of tho eighty-five arrived, thirty-six were Chinese returning to tho Colony, so that there were only three in excess of exempts. During the six years from 1899 to 1904 there have been an excess of departures over arrivals of 287, and there are to-day over 250 less Chinese in the Colony than were hero in the year 1899.
