INSULTING BEHAVIOUR.
A Larrikin Meets His Match.
A Substantial Penalty.
A case was before the the Fitzroy Court, Melbourne, on January 14th, in which a young man named Robert Atkinson was charged with insulting behaviour and using obscene language. As Mies Priscilla Humphries was passing through the avenue in Parliament Reserve leading from Albert-street to Spring-street, accused bumped heavily against her, seemingly with wilful intent, and without any word of apology. Resenting his impertinence, she struck him with her umbrella. Then he deliberately jostled her again. Miss Humphries stepped aside in order to avoid him, and he fell to the ground, but he clutched at. her and brought her down too. The lady displayed a good deal of courage, and firmly holding her assailant, she declared that she would give him in charge. He used bad language to her, but she held him resolutely until she reached the corner of Nicholson and Gertrude-streets, where she gave him into the custody of Constable Foy. Accused was fined £5, in default a month's imprisonment, in each case.
