An Ornamental Lake and Swimming- Baths in Prospect.
Cr Renall's Proposal
At last night's meeting of the Mastertou Borough Council, Cr Beuall brought up the question of constructing a lake, a quarter of a mile wide, on the reserve it was intended to take over irora the Government, at the rear of the Park, and in conjunction therewith to establish public baths. Cr Renall claimed that the scheme, of which he is the originator, had been previously advocated by him, and he contended it was quite practicable at a cost of about Js2QOO. He considered the expenditure would be reproductive, and thought that the proper course to pursue would be to gather all data possible relative to the scheme, and submit it to a public meeting convened for that purpose. He moved that Crs Hessey, Ewington, Jackson, Morris and the mover be constituted a committee to enquire into and report upon the project.
Cr Ewington seconded, and, in the course of his remarks, expressed tho opinion that the project was feasible.
Several Councillors also spoke in favor of the scheme, and it was pointed out by Cr Jackson that a resolution appeared the minutes of a meeting held about twflft sTears5 T ears ago, resolving to place a proposal* , before the ratepayers to raise a sum. ot £2000 for the purpose of erecting baths, Cr RenaU's motion was agreed to by th§ .
